ELMIRA, N.Y. — Two members of the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team were included on the All-U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) Team after guiding the Soaring Eagles to a runner-up finish at the 2018 NCAA Division III Championship last month.

In addition to their American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-America honors, seniors Sarah Hughson ’18 and Kelcey Crawford ’18 represented the Purple and Gold on the All-USCHO Second Team. They are the first Soaring Eagles to receive the postseason honor since Kristin Chivers ’19 was crowned at the conclusion of her All-American season in 2015-16.

The 2017-18 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Player of the Year, Hughson ended her collegiate career on the ice in breakout fashion with career highs in every statistical category. Her team-leading 49 points and 28 goals as a senior were more than she logged in her first three seasons combined. The East Haddam, Connecticut, native ranked fifth in all of Division III in goals per game (0.93) and eighth in points per game (1.63), while tying for second in power-play goals (9). Hughson, who was named a CCM/AHCA First-Team All-American, registered at least one point in 24 of 30 games played and ended her career on a 10-game point streak.

Crawford took over as the starting goalie on a full-time basis as a senior, and she did not disappoint. Her final collegiate season will go down as one of the best in program history. The Purcellville, Virginia, native set new single-season records for wins (22), saves (622) and save percentage (.955), resulting in UCHC Goalie of the Year, CCM/AHCA Second-Team All-America, and NCAA Division III All-Tournament Team awards. In a regular-season win over rival Plattsburgh State on November 26, the fourth-year netminder broke yet another record by making 62 saves, leading EC to a 4-2 upset over the Cardinals. Nationally, she ranked third in goals-against average (1.06) and save percentage, and finished tied for first in the country in wins.

The 2018 All-USCHO Teams were voted on by the online publication’s writers and editors. National champion Norwich University and Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) champion Adrian College led the way with four selections apiece.
