ROCHESTER, N.Y. — For their efforts in Saturday’s 3-3 overtime draw against No. 3/2-ranked Norwich at the Murray Athletic Center, Kelcey Crawford ’18 and Jess Adams ’21 of the nationally-ranked Elmira College women’s ice hockey team received accolades from the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC). Crawford was named the Goalie of the Week for the second time this season, while Adams was tabbed as the Rookie of the Week.
Today’s recognition marks the seventh time in her career that Crawford has earned weekly honors from the conference office. The Purcellville, Virginia, native receives this week’s award after a stellar showing against the nationally-ranked Cadets on Saturday, when she made 32 saves to preserve the important tie. Crawford held the Norwich offense, which entered Saturday with the nation’s second-highest scoring offense (5.50 gpg), to well below its average, while also handing the Cadets just the third blemish on their record this year (14-1-2).
After Saturday’s result, Crawford’s record against nationally-ranked opponents stands at 3-1-1, while her overall record is an impressive 11-2-1. She leads the team in saves (342), goals-against average (1.28) and save percentage (.950). Nationally, Crawford ranks sixth in goals-against average and seventh in save percentage, both of which also pace the UCHC.
Adams, on the other hand, was a critical part of EC’s offensive success, as her second-period goal gave Elmira a 2-1 lead in the bout. The tally was a result of a breakaway opportunity for the Holliston, Massachusetts, native, who planted the puck top shelf over the left shoulder of Norwich’s starting goalie, Laurie King.
The goal is Adams’ second of the season. Overall, she has five points this year on two goals and three assists. Adams joins Devyn Gilman ’21, Emma Crocker ’21, Tristen Tolan ’21 and Sydney Harris ’21 as EC rookies who have tallied at least five points in 2017-18.
Crawford and Adams will guide the nationally-ranked Soaring Eagles into the team’s final non-conference game of the season tonight, as Elmira squares off against Trinity (Conn.) in Harford, Connecticut. The opening puck drop for the bout is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the Koeppel Community Sports Center.
