ROCHESTER, N.Y. — For the first time this season, Elmira College’s Katie Granato ’19 was named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Granato paced the No. 3/3-ranked Soaring Eagles with three points and two goals in EC’s home-and-home series against William Smith College over the weekend. The Naperville, Illinois, native had a hand in both of Elmira’s tallies in Saturday’s 2-2 overtime draw against the Herons at the Murray Athletic Center. She started the afternoon with the primary assist on a first-period Meghan Fonfara ’18 goal, before scoring herself in the second period. On Sunday, Granato found the back of the net for the second time in as many days for the first goal in EC’s 2-1 overtime triumph over William Smith in Geneva, New York.

On the season, Granato is tied for the team lead in goals (18) and is second in points (32). The forward also became one of just four skaters in the UCHC to eclipse 30 points. Nationally, Granato is tied for eighth in goals (0.86) and 11th in points per game (1.52). She has also tallied at least one point in five of Elmira’s last six games.

Granato and the Soaring Eagles begin a season-long four-game homestand on Friday, February 9, when they welcome Manhattanville to the Murray Athletic Center for the first of a two-game set. The series opener is slated to begin at 7:00 p.m.
