RYE, N.Y. — A 1-1 tie in the second period turned into a four-goal setback for the Elmira College men’s ice hockey team, as the Soaring Eagles fell, 6-2, on the road to Manhattanville College in United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) action. The Valiants outshot Elmira, 36-28, and cashed in on 2-of-5 power-play chances while holding the Soaring Eagles to a 1-for-5 mark with the extra-skater.
Manhattanville’s Jarod Lavallee opened the scoring just 6:09 into the first period behind assists from Capster Dyrssen and Axel Walltott. The Lavallee goal held up through the end of the first period and through the majority of the second stanza, until EC’s Aleksi Ojala ’21 leveled the contest with his first goal of the season at 12:35. Ross Bartlett ’22 and Patrick Schmelzinger ’20 were credited with assists on the game-tying goal.
The Valiants answered with a pair of goals in a three-minute span in the final five minutes of the second period to take a 3-1 lead. Bryan Platt gave Manhattanville a 2-1 lead at 15:45, before Kenny McLean scored on the power play at 18:44 to send the Valiants into the second intermission with a two-goal advantage.
EC had chances to chip away at the deficit in the third period but was unable to find the back of the net. However, Manhattanville added to its lead with a trio of goals over a six-and-a-half minute span. Nikko Happo, Marco Ferraro and Cory Anderson all scored for the Valiants, with the final tally coming at 17:02.
Trailing 6-1, Elmira’s Anthony Parrucci ’20 found the back of the net for the first time this season at the 18:06 mark of the final frame. Ryan Blais ’21 and Matthew Cuce ’20 were credited with assists on what would be the final goal of this evening’s contest.
