MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — The Elmira College women’s ice hockey continued its stay among the top teams in the nation as the Soaring Eagles claimed the No. 4-spot in the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) poll for the fourth consecutive week on Monday afternoon.
Elmira held its firm grasp on the spot with 102 points from the voters following a 9-0 thrashing of United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) foe King’s (Pa.) on Saturday afternoon. The Soaring Eagles remain as the lone UCHC representative appearing in the weekly poll.
The remainder of the top-four was unchanged, as Plattsburgh State stayed at No. 1 and received all 15 first-place votes. The Panthers of Middlebury remained in second following a tie against T-No. 6 Norwich and a pair of wins over Trinity (CT). Wisconsin-Eau Claire held down the third spot with 120 points.
Gustavus Adolphus moved one spot up to fifth with a pair of convincing wins over Concordia (MN). The Pipers of Hamline slipped down into a tie for sixth with Norwich, as the Cadets used a 2-0-1 week to move up from seventh. Wisconsin-River Falls stayed steady at No. 8 with wins over St. Thomas and Wisconsin-Superior.
The top 10 was rounded out by Endicott and Adrian, as the two squad’s swapped spots from last week’s rankings. The Gulls moved up to ninth, while the Bulldogs dropped down to 10th.
The Soaring Eagles will put their No. 4 ranking on the line this weekend with a pair of tough matchups. A date with archrival No. 1 Plattsburgh State awaits Elmira on Friday, February 14. On Sunday, February 16, the Purple and Gold take on William Smith in a UCHC tilt at the top of the leaderboard.
