OSWEGO, N.Y. – After sticking with the third-ranked team in the nation Friday night, the Oswego State women’s ice hockey team (10-10-1, 8-6-0 ECAC West) lost to Elmira (20-3-1, 14-2-0), 6-0, Saturday afternoon on Senior Day. The Soaring Eagles netted two goals in each period from six different skaters, while out-shooting the Lakers, 61-9.
Elmira jumped on the board at 13:13 in the first period when Cassidy Delainey posted her eighth goal of the season with an assist going to Ashton Hogan. The Soaring Eagles struck again before the end of the frame when Madison Johnston one-timed a pass near the slot from Delainey at 16:43.
Olivia Nystrom scored the first of three Elmira power-play goals midway through the second when she pounced on a rebound following a previous shot. Less than two minutes later, Hogan tallied her 17th goal of the season with an assist going to Caitlin Metcalf to make the score 4-0 at the end of two periods.
However, the Soaring Eagles had a 5-on-3 advantage late in the second that carried over to the third, resulting in Tanis Lamoureux joining the scoring act and Delainey earning the helper. Elmira closed out the scoring at 13:27 when Mary-Kate Gellerman put a shot from the point top shelf.
