ELMIRA, N.Y. — Following another series sweep over the weekend, the Elmira College women’s ice hockey team moved up one spot in the D3hockey.com national poll to No. 3 this week. The Soaring Eagles remained at the No. 3 spot in the U.S. College Hockey Online (USCHO) national poll as well.
Elmira’s movement in the D3hockey.com poll was the result of EC winning back-to-back games against Stevenson and former No. 3 Adrian skating to a 1-1 overtime tie against unranked St. Scholastica. With this afternoon’s shuffling of spots, both the USCHO and D3hockey.com polls are identical at spots 1-6.
Norwich possesses the No. 1 ranking in both polls with an unblemished 8-0-1 record. The Cadets collected all 15 first-place votes in the USCHO poll and 11 of the 15 votes in the D3hockey.com ranking. Plattsburgh State is ranked second in both polls and earned four first-place votes in the D3hockey.com poll.
The 5-0-0 Soaring Eagles hold down the No. 3 spot and are once again the only United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) affiliate with a national ranking this season.
Adrian, Wisconsin-River Falls and Middlebury are four, five and six in both national polls. Gustavus Adolphus, Connecticut, St. Thomas and Hamilton round out the top-10 in the USCHO poll, while the D3hockey.com poll has Endicott, Gustavus Adolphus, Connecticut and St. Thomas in its top-10.
Elmira will face some of the stiffest competition in the country this weekend at the UNO Classic, hosted by Plattsburgh State at the Ronald B. Stafford Ice Arena. The Purple and Gold open the tournament against No. 6/6 Middlebury on Saturday, November 25, at 7:00 p.m. and will face either No. 2/2 Plattsburgh State or No. 4/4 Adrian the following afternoon.
