ELMIRA, N.Y. – Madison Johnston and Tamis Lamoureux each scored two goals and recorded an assist to lead the nationally fifth-ranked Elmira women’s ice hockey team to a 5-0 win versus Cortland Sunday afternoon in ECAC West action. The Red Dragons fell to 0-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference with the loss, while the Soaring Eagles improved to 3-0-1 and 2-0 after sweeping the two-game weekend series.
Freshman goalie Deanna Meunier (Parsippany, NJ/New Jersey Rockets) registered 42 saves for Cortland. Lisa Mrashall stopped eight shots in goal for Elmira in posting the Soaring Eagles’ second shutout of the weekend.
Phoebe Piku also scored and registered an assist for Elmira with Olivia Nystrom, Brooke Wilgosh, Mary-Kate Gellerman, Ashton Hogan, Ella Stewart and Ashley Ryan each collecting an assist.
Johnston gave Elmira a 2-0 lead after the first period with an even-strength goal at three minutes, 40 seconds and a power-play score at 15:48. Lamoureux made it a 3-0 game with her first goal at 19:03 of the second. Piku increased the lead to 4-0 at 15:02 of the third period and Lamoureux finished the scoring with her second of the game just eight seconds later.
