Etchings Indigenous
Etchings Indigenous: Black and Sexy is an excellent publication that explores modern Indigenous identity through some of the best contemporary writing and art by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people from around Australia. Published by an editorial and marketing team of Indigenous interns working under mentorship at Ilura Press, Etchings Indigenous not only aims to promote modern Indigenous literature and art but also offers Indigenous interns the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and industry specific credentials.
Etchings Indigenous contains exceptional stories and poetry from Tony Birch, Ali Cobby Eckermann, John Harding, Dennis Fisher, Brenda Saunders, Nellie Green, Shirley Morgan, Katie Wyatt as well as book and music reviews.
Inside, you will also discover  the story of Payback Records, an Indigenous hip hop label founded by Essendon footballer Nathan Lovett-Murray,  stunning photography by Wayne Quilliam, National NAIDOC Artist of the Year, an interview with Kim Kruger, Project Manager of the famous Michael Long Walk, and insights into the stories of the Sista Girls from the Tiwi Islands by artist/photographer Bindi Cole with writer Jirra Lulla Harvey (including Bindi’s 2009 Deadly Art Award winning photograph).
Etchings Indigenous was launched by the Mayor of Port Phillip, Cr Frank O’Connor, as part of the fabulous Yalukit Willam Ngargee: People Place Gathering Indigenous Festival in St. Kilda, Victoria. All profits will go towards continuing this important project and helping to promote awareness of Indigenous culture.
