NEW YORK TOPS LOCKPORT IN FINAL CONTEST (Jan. 31)

New York’s Daniel Backstrom scored 1:07 into overtime to beat Lockport, 5-4 (OT).

Dominick Sacco had one goal and four assists to lead New York. Sacco scored 3:16 into the third period to make the score 4-3 New York. Jimmy Warrick provided the assist.

New York’s penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Lockport power plays. New York’s offense rang up 34 shots on Lockport’s net.

Lockport’s Sal Stalteri was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 26 saves and let only one puck past him. Stalteri certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.95 entering the contest.

Lockport excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. East Coast was unable to stop Lockport from sending pucks towards the net, and Lockport eventually piled up 69 shots on goal.

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, Cape Cod escaped with a 5-3 victory over Lockport.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Aaron Deady‘s goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

 

Chuck Costello and Mike Jessman provided the spark for Cape Cod, combining for two goals and five assists. Costello finished with two goals and one assist and Jessman also notched zero goals and four assists.

Cape Cod stifled Lockport’s power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Cape Cod kept Lockport’s goalie busy throughout the game, and Sam Fitzpatrick made 37 saves on 42 shots.

Cape Cod also had goals scored by Dan Moore and Maxime Dordet, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cape Cod were Eric Szeker, who had three.

Lockport forced Cape Cod goalie Steven Schmitt to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

Lockport was led by Frank II Vecchio, who grabbed two goals. Vecchio scored the first of his two goals at 16:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Cape Cod. LOCKPORT COMEBACK FALLS SHORT (Jan. 28)

 

Lockport almost clawed its way back from a three-goal deficit, but Skylands managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Skylands led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Skylands’ Tim Vant scored at 2:10 in the second period to put Skylands up 3-0.

Skylands was helped by Ernest Komarnitskii, who registered one goal. Komarnitskii scored 19:54 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Skylands. Matt Sinatra provided the assist. Skylands additionally got points from Cole Skelly, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Cory Decosta also scored for Skylands. More assists for Skylands came via Mike King, who had one.
