BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Senators, along with Senator Fred Akshar of the 52nd New York State Senate District, will hold a Press Conference on February 5, 2016, at 12:15p.m. at the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena. Senator Akshar will make a special announcement proclaiming February 6th as “Do It For Daron (DIFD) Power to the Purple Day in 52nd New York State Senate District” culminating with DIFD Night with the B-Sens on Saturday when they host the Rochester Americans at 7:05p.m. The community is encouraged to wear purple on Saturday to show their support for youth mental health.

The Press Conference, which will be held on the Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena’s second floor concourse, will feature Senator Akshar, Tom Mitchell (Executive Vice President of Operations of the B-Sens), members of the Mental Health Association of the Southern Tier as well as Binghamton Senators’ Head Coach Luke Richardson.

DIFD was created in honor of Daron Richardson, the 14-year-old daughter of Luke and his wife Stephanie, who lost her life to suicide in November 2010. DIFD seeks to inspire conversations about youth mental health and promote mental well-being. Purple, which is Daron’s favorite color, is the official color of the DIFD initiative and all fans are encouraged to wear purple to the game on Friday to help raise awareness, inspire conversation and transform youth mental health.
