Frontier/Lakeshore/Orchard Park (FLOP) won their first game of the season on the road to Kenmore/Grand Island in a 4-0 shutout. Freshman Goalie Kerri McCarthy got the win stopping 18 shots.
It was anyone’s game after the first period ended 0-0 but at 11:53 of the second Taylor Joyce scored an unassisted goal. Two minutes later Kathleen Dougherty scored on the powerplay, assisted by Lilly Kushner and Brinn Sworzydiak. It was Kushner’s first assist in varsity ice hockey.
Another first came at 6 minutes of the second when Freshman Emily Patton scored her first varsity goal, on the powerplay, assisted by Gabby Messing. The final goal of the game came at 5:02 of the second when Joyce scored another unassisted goal.
Kenmore/Grand Island’s Carolyn Bourgeault stopped 15 of 19 SOG.
Kenmore/Grand Island takes on LID Thursday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. at Holiday Rink and FLOP plays Monsignor Martin at 4:30 p.m. at Hamburg Nike.
