Fordham University Takes MCHC Championship

Congratulations to the Fordham University Hockey Team  2013 – 2014 MCHC Champions.

In a close game, Fordham edged out Suffolk CC by a 5-4 margin to capture the Metropolitan Colligate Hockey Championship this past Sunday at the Prudential Center in Newark New Jersey.

Fordham, who never trailing in the game, took leads of 1-0 (after 1st period), and 4-3 (after 2nd period), held on for the win.  The team was lead by leading scorer Senior John Fox who tallied a hat trick in the finals, Juniors Chris Zito, Zack Olah, Kevin McCormack,  Sophomores Tim Ginter and Nick MacDonald and Freshmen John Oddo and Ryan Flood.  Sophomore Goaltender Nick Guberti was the leagues top netminder in goals against and save percentage.  Junior Bill Lane the teams leading scorer when injured missed the last  4 league games also the championship weekend.

After all was said and done the team ended the season with an overall record of 20-5-2-1 , the third time in team history the team has won 20 games.  The Rams had an impressive 12-1-1 league record and finished in first place for the third time in the last five years and the team played 28 games which ties the record for most game played in a single season. By season’s end the teams had won its last 12  games in a row, breaking the team record for consecutive wins.

Head Coach Rich Guberti completes his 6th season with the team.  The team has gone 100-38-2-1during his tenure.   They have finished the regular season in 1st place 3 times.    In that time the team has also gone to the finals 3 times, winning twice.
