Former Soaring Eagle Signs Contract With Tampereen Koovee

Elmira, N.Y. — Former Elmira College men’s hockey standout Aleksi Ojala ’21 inked his first professional contract, signing with his hometown team of Tampere, Finland  (Tampereen Koovee). The Koovee are members of the Mestis, Finland’s Second League. 

Ojala is the ninth Soaring Eagle since 2020 to sign a pro contract, joining former teammates  Christian Lloyd ’20, Connor Powell ’20, Spencer Carter ’20, Andrew Pucci ’20, Nick Ford ’20, Anthony Parrucci ’20, and Spencer MacLean ’20, and Matthew Cuce ’20 

Ojala joins the Koovee after 4 years at EC while playing a major role in winning the 2021 UCHC Championship with the Soaring Eagles. Ojala graduated EC with a degree in Business Administration where he majored in management and minored in finance. Ojala was also selected to the UCHC All-Academic Team and the Empire 8 President’s List. Skating in 63 games during his career with Elmira, Ojala helped the Soaring Eagles to a 2021 Spring UCHC Championship win over Stevenson back in April.
