Former Statesman wins championship with Tilburg Trappers
Former Hobart College goalie Nick Broadwater ’13 (Portland, Maine) recently completed his rookie season for the Tilburg Trappers of the Eredivsie Hockey League in Tilburg, Netherlands, with a championship.
“The past year in Tilburg was a great experience,” said Broadwater. “Tilburg has a great hockey history, which created an unbelievable atmosphere for every game. The year was everything I could’ve asked for out of my rookie season.”
Broadwater, just the third Hobart hockey player to earn first team All-American honors in 2013, played in a total of 26 games for the Trappers. In the regular season, he posted a 17-2-0 record, logged a 1.72 goals against average and earned three shutouts. Broadwater also played a key role in the Trappers’ playoff run, playing in seven games and earning six victories in goal on the way to Tilburg’s 14th title in team history. In the playoffs, he sported a 1.43 goals against average and earned three shutouts, including a shutout in the title game, a 1-0 win over HYS The Hague.
“The championship run was great,” said Broadwater. “The fans were great following us on the road and very loud in our home rink. The entire experience throughout the playoffs was a lot of fun. I have to give a lot of credit to the team defense it was just a great group. I can’t really say enough about the group of guys in Tilburg. They made my season a lot more enjoyable.”
Broadwater finished his senior season with a Statesmen record 1.66 goals against average, and a .939 save percentage. He ranks first on the Hobart career list for shutouts (11) and goals against average (2.25) and second in wins (45), saves (2,275), and save percentage (.927).
Broadwater hopes to continue his professional hockey career and is looking into returning to the Tilburg Trappers next year.
