FREDONIA, N.Y. — Jacob Haynes (Whitby, Ont.) scored with 20 seconds left in regulation to earn Fredonia a 3-3 tie with Stevenson in men’s hockey Friday at Steele Hall.

With the goaltender pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Haynes tucked the puck inside the near post following a wild scramble by the Blue Devils. It was his third goal of the season and earned Hayes the No. 1 star.

Todd Schauss (Terryville, Conn.) — the No. 3 star — and Ryan Dunn (Rockland, Mass.) also scored for Fredonia while Anton Rosen (Orsa, Sweden) made 26 saves.

Liam Walsh, Savuer Abdella, and Nick Gray scored for the Mustangs. Their goaltender, Jacob Caffrey, made 47 saves and earned the No. 2 star.

After a scoreless first period, Walsh put Stevenson on top 1-0 with a power-play goal when he knocked in a rebound after Rosen stopped a wide-angle shot from the right point. The Blue Devils drew even 1-1 when Schauss, stationed in slot, tipped in a slapshot from the point. Dunn made it 2-1 Fredonia at 17:55 of the second period when he intercepted a pass and went in alone for a breakaway short-handed goal.

Abdella tied the score at 2-2 early in the third period with a shot from the point through a maze of players into the top right corner. Gray’s goal midway through the third period was set up by Carl Lyden, who circled behind the net with the puck with Rosen in pursuit. Gray tapped in Lyden’s pass to put Stevenson up 3-2.

The same two teams are back in action Saturday at 3 p.m. The Blue Devils take a 7-5-2 into the game while the Mustangs are 5-4-4.
