CORTLAND, N.Y – The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has released the results of the 2017 men’s ice hockey preseason coaches poll. The conference coaches selected Geneseo as the #1 team receiving 70 overall points, one more vote than last year’s SUNYAC champions, Plattsburgh.
Last season, the Knights were an impressive 17-7-3 earning them the #3 spot in the SUNYAC tournament where they made it to the second round before getting eliminated by Plattsburgh. Geneseo opens its season at home on Friday, October 27 against Neumann College.
Plattsburgh gathered 69 points, ranking them second in the preseason poll. The Cardinals won their 22nd SUNYAC men’s ice hockey title last season when they defeated Oswego, 3-2, in the finals. Plattsburgh faces off against Geneseo on November 11 and against Oswego on December 9 in two highly anticipated SUNYAC match-ups.
Oswego finished with 62 points, landing them third place in the poll. They were 21-6-1 overall last year and the first overall seed for the SUNYAC tournament before their season was ended by Plattsburgh in the finals. The Lakers have 10 overall SUNYAC crowns including back-to-back wins in 2013 and 2014.
