Glens Falls, NY – The Adirondack Thunder, proud ECHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames, unveiled their new name, logo and color scheme today.
In an unveiling held at The Bullpen in Glens Falls, the new Thunder brand adorned several screens throughout the restaurant in front of a crowd of media and members of the general public. Current Adirondack Flames and future Adirondack Thunder President Brian Petrovek unveiled the new name, logo and color scheme to the public, beginning a new chapter of professional hockey in Glens Falls and the Adirondack region.
“The Thunder brand has become a fixture in the ECHL and we are excited to be able to carry that tradition and history forward, jumpstarting it throughout the northeast and into the Glens Falls community”, Petrovek said. “Keeping the colors that the Calgary Flames brought to Glens Falls last spring provides consistency and maintains a look and color scheme which our fans have embraced during our first season in the Adirondack region. We’re thrilled with the new look to begin play next year. Entering new leagues calls for a fresh, new and bold start and the Thunder brand does that at a very high and exciting level. Adirondack Thunder Hockey, Calgary Flames style, starts today.”
“At the same time, our AHL Flames head into the most exciting period of the season, in pursuit of a Calder Cup Playoff berth and a run at the Calder Cup. While we celebrate this unveiling of the Adirondack Thunder brand today, our focus and energies over the next few months remain on the business at hand and we look forward to growing our loyal fan support during this final leg of our home schedule”.
The Thunder, who will begin play in the 2015-16 season, relocated to Glens Falls from Stockton, CA. The team’s logo has similarities to the brand that the Stockton Thunder have been known for in the ECHL for the past ten seasons, with eight playoff appearances, highlighted by a trip to the Kelly Cup Finals in 2013.
The color scheme brought to the Glens Falls market by the AHL’s Adirondack Flames this season, which falls in line with the Calgary Flames’ palate at the NHL level, will remain nearly identical with the ECHL’s Adirondack Thunder. The team has also added grey into the mix, giving the team another strong tone.
On January 30, 2015, the Thunder became Glens Falls’ first ever team in the ECHL, following 26 seasons in the American Hockey League and seven seasons in the United Hockey League. The Thunder franchise will become the sixth professional hockey team to call Glens Falls home, joining the AHL’s Adirondack Red Wings, Adirondack Phantoms and Adirondack Flames, along with the UHL’s Adirondack Ice Hawks and Adirondack Frostbite.
Season ticket packages for the Adirondack Thunder’s inaugural 2015-16 season are scheduled to go on sale in the near future, along with Adirondack Flames playoff ticket packages. For more information, visit adirondackflames.com.
