Griff And Binnington Earn CHA Weekly Honors For RIT

ROCHESTER, NY – Seniors Lindsay Grigg (Oakville, Ontario/Oakville Hornets) and Ali Binnington (Oakville, Ontario/Mississauga Chiefs) of the RIT women’s hockey team earned College Hockey America weekly honors on Monday, for the week ending March 1, 2015. Grigg, the CHA Player of the Week, recorded her first weekly accolade of the season and second her career. Binnington, the CHA Goaltender of the Week, was honored for the third time this season and 14th time in her career.

Grigg scored the game-winning goal in Saturday’s 1-0 win in game two over Robert Morris in the CHA First Round series. On Friday, she recorded an an assist in the 3-1 win, as RIT swept the series, improving to 6-0 all-time in the CHA First Round. Grigg leads the team in scoring with 17 points on six goals and 11 assists in 36 games this season.

Binnington was tremendous over the weekend, stopping 61 of 62 shots, as RIT swept Robert Morris, winning by scores of 3-1 and 1-0. On Friday, Binnington stopped 30-of-31 shots in a 3-1 victory and on Saturday, stopped all 31 shots she faced for her school record 19th career shutout in the 1-0 win. Binnington has allowed just one goal over her last three starts and is 10-10-3 this season with a 1.78 goals against average and .936 save percentage. The senior goaltender has been incredible in the postseason in her RIT career, going 9-1 in 10 starts with a microscopic 0.92 goals against average and .969 save percentage, recording three shutouts.

RIT, the defending CHA Champions, travel to Mercyhurst for CHA Championship weekend. On Friday, RIT, seeded sixth, will face top seed Mercyhurst in the first semifinal at 3 p.m. Second-seed Syracuse will host No. 3 Penn State in the second semifinal at 7 p.m. The two winners will meet in the championship game on Saturday at 3 p.m. The CHA champion will earn an automatic berth into the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
