TROY, N.Y. – ECAC Hockey has announced its weekly award winners from men’s hockey and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) student-athlete Cam Hackett has been named Rookie of the Week.
A freshman goaltender from Sault Ste. Marie, Que., Hackett went 1-0-1 last week, with a 2.35 goals against average and a .933 save percentage. He totaled 70 saves, including a career-high 41 in the RPI’s 3-2 overtime victory over then-No. 10 Yale on Friday night. He then made 29 stops in a 3-3 tie with Brown on Saturday.
In four games this season (3 starts), Hackett is 2-0-2 with a 2.62 goals against average and a .929 save percentage. The former Lincoln Stars standout has made 117 saves in 205:49 of playing time and all four of the contests he has appeared in have gone to overtime.
Hackett leads ECAC Hockey rookie goalies in wins, games played, minutes and saves. He ranks 10th nationally in victories and 14th in total stops. His first three appearances came against nationally-ranked opponents and he was the goalie of record in all three, going 2-0-1.
Before arriving at Renssealer, Hackett posted a 13-25-2 record with the Stars, compiling a 3.85 goals against average and an .895 save percentage.
The Engineers are on the road for their only game this week, as they visit Bentley University for a non-league match-up on Friday (7pm).
