The Hamilton College women’s hockey team battled to a 1-1 overtime draw against Plymouth State University on Friday afternoon at the 13th annual Saint Michael’s College Trader Duke’s Ice Hockey Classic in South Burlington, Vt.
The Continentals (5-2-1 overall) outshot the Panthers 49-14. Sammy Johnson ’20 had 13 stops in her first start of the season in net for Hamilton. Plymouth’s Emelie Lindqvist made 48 saves.
Alie Louie gave the Panthers (2-6-3) a 1-0 lead with 45 seconds remaining in the first period. Kailey Jacobs passed to Louie in a 2-on-1 advantage in Hamilton’s zone. Johnson stopped Louie’s initial shot but the rebound bounced up and over her blocker inside the left post.
Despite being short-handed 1:33 into the second period, Caroline Knop ’18 scored her first goal of the season 22 seconds into the penalty kill. Knop blocked a shot by Plymouth State and the puck deflected into the neutral zone where Missy Segall ’21 used her speed to get a 2-on-1 situation along with Knop. Segall fired a shot into Lindqvist’s pads but Knop was there to put away the rebound.
Hamilton is back on the ice on Saturday as the Continentals face the University of Southern Maine (3-9) at 1 p.m. to wrap up the Saint Michael’s Classic.
