Potsdam, N.Y. – The William Smith College ice hockey team recorded its first varsity point this afternoon playing to a 1-1 tie with ECAC West opponent, Potsdam.
The Bears (1-1-1) jumped out to an early 1-0 lead when Jordan Ott notched a powerplay goal at the 1:49 mark of the first period. Lynette Kryminski was credited with the assist. Ott worked herself into the slot and sent the shot into the back of the net.
William Smith scored the game-tying goal in the second period.Sarah Garrett<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5544> tallied her first goal of the season at 13:28 of the middle period to tie the game at one. Emily Burton<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5538> was credited with the assist. The game remained tied at the end of regulation forcing an extra period. William Smith earned a power play with just under two minutes remaining in overtime. The Herons managed four shots but were not able to solve the Potsdam goalie.
Megan Messuri<http://www.hwsathletics.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=5547> started in net for William Smith and recorded 41 saves in 65 minutes of action. Alexane Rodrigue played all 65 minutes between the pipes for the Bears and made 30 saves including five in the overtime period.
Potsdam outshot the Herons 41-30. The Herons were unable to convert on their extra skater opportunities, but limited the Bears to just one goal on the power play.
