Hilary Knight Nominated For 2015 Sportswoman of the Year Award

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Hilary Knight (Sun Valley, Idaho) of the 2015 U.S. Women’s National Team has been selected as one of 10 finalists for the 2015 Sportswoman of the Year Award (Team Sport), it was announced by the Women’s Sports Foundation.

The winner, determined by a combination of a public vote (50 percent) and the Women’s Sports Foundation’s Awards Committee’s vote (50 percent), will be honored at the 36th Annual Salute to Women in Sports Awards Gala on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York City. Fan voting is open now at WomensSportsFoundation.org and runs until Aug. 31.

Athletes were considered for this year’s award based on their athletic achievements between Aug. 1, 2014 and July 31, 2015.

On April 4, Knight helped the U.S. claim gold at the 2015 International Ice Hockey Federation Women’s World Championship, where she was named the event’s Most Valuable Player. In five games, she led the tournament with seven goals and 12 points, and was named Best Forward of the Tournament by the Directorate. She was also named a member of the Media All-Star Team and one of the top three U.S. players as selected by coaches. Knight also helped Team USA to a second place finish at the 2014 Four Nations Cup in Calgary.

As a member of the Boston Blades of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, Knight earned the 2015 Clarkson Cup championship, contributing seven points (4-3) in three playoff games.
