The Neumann College men’s hockey team took a 2-0 lead in the second period and never looked back, as the Knights posted an 8-1 win over Hobart College in an ECAC West game played tonight in Aston, Pa. The Statesmen fall to 11-8-4 overall and 5-5-3 in conference play.
Neumann improves to 9-10-4 overall and 4-7-2 in the ECAC West. Seven different Knights scored. Dan McDougall led Neumann with three points on a goal and two assists. Shayne Morrissey scored twice and D’Lane Sather chipped in two assists. Jory Mullin and Collin O’Neil each contributed a goal and an assist. Braely Torris played all 60 minutes in goal and made 38 saves.
Sophomore Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich) scored Hobart’s lone goal. First-year Tim Keegan (Lexington, Mass.) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and finished with 26 saves.
After a scoreless first period, Jon Low broke through for Neumann at 10:41 in the second. With nine seconds left in the middle period, Chris Bournazos notched a power-play goal for the Knights to make it 2-0.
Neumann kept control through the third period. At 5:39 Anthony Pino found the back of the net. Just 33 seconds later, McDougall scored an unassisted goal and 43 seconds after that Morrissey stretched the lead to 5-0. At 12:33 Morrissey struck again this time with a short-handed tally. At 13:13, Olson broke through for Hobart after passes from first-years Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.) and Nick Bingaman (Bedford, N.Y.). Mullin and O’Neil each added a goal in the last six minutes for the final margin.
The Statesmen finished with a 39-34 advantage in shots. The Knights went 2-for-5 on the power play and Hobart finished 0-for-5.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 21, when they play another ECAC West contest at 7 p.m.
