Hobart Hosts Stevenson In ECAC West Tourney

The Hobart College hockey team is the No. 3 seed in the ECAC West tournament. The Statesmen earned the right to host No. 6 Stevenson in a first round game on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in The Cooler.

Hobart, which is ranked No. 6 in the nation, closed out the regular season with two ECAC West wins over Elmira for a 17-4-4 overall record and a 9-4-1 mark in conference play. The Statesmen have met the Mustangs twice this season, earning a 3-1 win in Stevenson, Md., back on Nov. 5, and a 3-2 overtime victory in The Cooler on Jan. 28.

Four Statesmen have notched two points against Stevenson this year. Junior Jordan Haskell posted the overtime game winner and added an assist in The Cooler. Junior Vincent Russo and senior Bobby Sokol each posted a goal and an assist, and junior Bren Greiner added two assists against the Mustangs.

Senior Nick Bingaman leads Hobart with 17 goals and 25 points this year. Sophomore Tanner Shaw has handed out a team-high 15 assists. Junior goaltender Frank Oplinger has played the most games in goal. He’s sporting a .918 save percentage, a 2.52 goals against average and an 8-4-2 record.

Stevenson brings a 10-13-2 overall record to Geneva. The Mustangs wrapped up conference play with a 4-9-1 record. Mike Davis leads the team with 10 goals and 14 assists for 24 points. Jordan Watt is next with 17 points on nine goals and eight assists. Jacob Caffrey has played the most minutes in goal. He has a .905 save percentage, a 3.44 goals against average and a 7-11-2 record.
