The Hobart College hockey team will travel to Europe during the semester break to compete in exhibition games with French professional teams and explore parts of France and Switzerland.
“I strongly believe these trips have inspired our teams to victory,” said Hobart Head Coach Mark Taylor. “After some of our trips we went on to the national semifinals, and I know for certain that they have fueled the passion for individuals to continue to play beyond college. We currently have four recent alums playing in Europe this year.”
Former Statesmen Bronson Kovacs ’15 is playing in Hungary, Brad Robbins ’16 and Lino Chimienti ’16 are competing in France and Tommaso Traversa ’15 started his professional career in England and now is in the ALPSHL which covers Italy, Austria and Slovenia.
The Statesmen will fly into Geneva, Switzerland, on Dec. 28, and stay primarily in Annecy, France. Hobart is scheduled to take on French teams from the Magnus League Division 1 and an all-star team from Division 2.
In addition to competing, the team will be able to do some sightseeing and skiing in the French Alps. The group is also hoping to explore additional parts of France and Switzerland in their time abroad. The Statesmen will return to the States on Jan. 7.
Hobart is currently ranked No. 8 in the nation in both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com polls. The Statesmen are 7-2-3 overall and 4-2-0 in the ECAC West. Hobart will return to its regular season schedule on Friday, Jan. 13, when it hosts Salve Regina for a non-league game in The Cooler at 7 p.m.
