Hobart Victorious Over Brockport

The No. 15 Hobart College hockey team earned a 3-1 victory in its season opener tonight, a non-league game played in Brockport, New York. Senior Brad McBride (Lone Tree, Colo.) and junior Bo Webster (Aurora, Ontario) each chipped in two assists in the victory.

 

Junior goalie Lino Chimienti (Montreal, Quebec) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Statesmen and made 24 saves.

 

Hobart posted a 17-7 advantage in shots in the first period, but couldn’t get a shot by Brockport goalie, Jared Lockhurst, in the first 20 minutes.

 

First-year Tyler Wolf (Naperville, Ill.) broke through for Hobart at 16:17 in the second. His first goal as a Statesman made it 1-0 and came off assists from sophomores Nick Bingaman (Paradise Valley, Ariz.) and Bobby Sokol (Belle Vernon, Pa.). The second period saw Hobart kill off its first penalty of the year. The Statesmen also killed off the Golden Flyers’ other three power-play attempts in the game.

 

Just 53 seconds into the third period, senior Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) put the Statesmen up 2-0. Webster and McBride earned the assists. With 10:58 left in the third, Brockport capitalized on a breakaway to get a short-handed goal from Chase Nieuwendyk after a pass from Jonathan Demme. With 1:47 left in the game, seniorRobert Sovik (Prague, Czech Republic) found the back of the net. McBride and Webster once again set up the scoring play.

 

The Statesmen finished with a 41-25 advantage in shots. Both teams were unable to capitalize on a power play. Brockport went 0-for-4, and Hobart finished 0-for-3.  Lockhurst finished with 38 saves in goal for the Golden Flyers.
