Two members of the Hobart College hockey team were recognized by the ECAC West today. Junior defenseman Carl Belizario (Dorval, Quebec) was named the Player of the Week and first-year defenseman Jonas Toupal (Vcelna, Czech Republic) earned a spot on the weekly honor roll.
After a 1-1 road weekend at Manhattanville, the Statesmen remained No. 5 in the nation in the D3hockey.com poll and fell one spot to No. 6 in the USCHO.com poll.
Belizario produced two second period power-play goals in Hobart’s 4-2 win over the Valiants on Saturday night. The victory clinched the ECAC West regular season title for the Statesmen. Belizario has played in all 24 games this season. He has registered four goals and 10 assists for 14 points. Belizario ranks second in the ECAC West in defensemen scoring, is tied for second in power-play goals (4) and tied for seventh in power-play points (7).
Toupal led the Statesmen with three points on three assists over the weekend. On Friday night, he assisted Hobart’s first goal of the game. On Saturday night, he set up the Statesmen’s second and fourth goals, both coming on power plays. Toupal has posted five assists this season.
The Statesmen, who captured the league regular season title for the second year in a row and for the fourth time in program history, rank third in the nation on the penalty kill (90.6 %), sixth in scoring offense (4.08 g/gm), sixth in team winning percentage (.792), and ninth in scoring defense (2.00 ga/gm).
Hobart (18-4-2, 11-3-0 ECAC West) will host Elmira (11-9-3, 4-7-2) for its final regular season game on Saturday, Feb. 20 at 4 p.m. in The Cooler.
