Hobart’s Belizario Named AHCA All-American

Hobart College senior defenseman Carl Belizario (Dorval, Quebec) was named an American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American, garnering a spot on the East third team.

Belizario is a two-time AHCA All-American, earning a spot on the second team last year. He is Hobart hockey’s 15th AHCA All-American. Belizario is the first Statesman to garner All-America honors twice in his career since Keith Longo ’09 was tabbed an AHCA All-American in 2008 and 2009.

Belizario was named the 2017 ECAC West Defensive Player of the Year. He’s also a two-time All-ECAC West first team selection. Belizario posted 15 points on four goals and 11 assists in 25 games this year. He finished the season tied for seventh in the conference in defenseman scoring. Belizario led the Hobart defense that ranked first in the ECAC West and 15th in the nation in scoring defense, allowing an average of 2.38 goals per game. He also played a vital role in the Statesmen penalty kill which denied 121 of its opponents 138 power-play attempts. Hobart finished the year ranked atop the ECAC West and sixth in the country on the penalty kill (87.7%).

A 2016 D3hockey.com all-region pick, Belizario played in 106 games at Hobart. He logged 14 goals and 42 assists for 56 career points. Belizario also earned a spot on the ECAC West All-Rookie team in 2014. Belizario and the Class of 2017 helped Hobart to a 76-26-10 record in their four years, setting a program record for wins by a graduating class and leading the Statesmen to three straight ECAC West Tournament titles and three straight NCAA tournament appearances.

Hobart finished the 2016-17 season with a 20-5-4 record. It was the Statesmen’s 15th consecutive winning season. Hobart made its seventh appearance in the NCAA tournament and captured its fifth ECAC West tournament title.
