Two members of the Hobart College hockey team garnered weekly recognition from the New England Hockey Conference this afternoon. Goalie Liam Lascelle was tabbed the conference’s goaltender of the week and forward Aaron Maguyon was named to the weekly honor roll. In addition, Hobart moved up one spot to No. 4 in the USCHO.com poll.
Hobart is 8-1-1 overall this season and is coming off a 2-0-0 week in NEHC play. The Statesmen defeated Skidmore 4-3 in overtime on Friday night thanks to a Blake Coffey goal. The next day, Hobart shut out Castleton 6-0. Jonah Alexander scored twice and eight different players recorded a point for the Statesmen. With the two victories, Hobart is now 5-0-1 in conference play and sits atop the standings with 15 points.
Lascelle was 1-0-0 in goal this weekend, notching his first shutout of the season in the win against Castleton. He stopped all 19 shots he faced, including eight in the first period. Lascelle also logged the first point of his collegiate career with an assist on Alexander’s game-winning goal in the first period.
Lascelle is 4-0-0 this season with a 2.00 goals against average and a .910 save percentage.
Maguyon led the Statesmen with three points this weekend. Against the Thoroughbreds, he scored a power-play goal in the second period. The next day, Maguyon had a goal and an assist against the Spartans. He scored in the second period and set up Zach Tyson’s goal in the third period.
Through 10 games, Maguyon leads the team with 12 points on nine goals and three assists. He is ninth in the nation in goals per game (0.89). Maguyon is second in the nation with five power-play goals.
Hobart enters the week ranked second in the nation in scoring offense (5.30 gpg), scoring margin (+3.40), and power play percentage (.349). In addition, the Statesmen are third in the nation in assists (101) and points (154), sixth in winning percentage (.850), ninth in scoring defense (1.90) and 19th in penalty kill percentage (.868).
Hobart will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 11, when it takes on 15th-ranked Trinity. Faceoff at the Koeppel Community Sports Center is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Saturday’s game will be the 11th all-time meeting between Hobart and Trinity. The Statesmen hold a slight 4-3-3 advantage in the series. The Bantoms hold a 2-1-2 edge in Hartford, Connecticut.
Face coverings are required at all indoor athletics events at Trinity. Spectators over the age of 12 will be required to show proof of vaccination before entering the Koeppel Rink. Spectators under the age of 12 will not be required to be vaccinated.
