Hobart College senior forward Mac Olson (Grosse Pointe, Mich.) just signed with the Evansville Icemen of the ECHL. He played for the Icemen in a 5-3 win over the Cincinnati Cyclones on April 1.
“I’m very excited for the opportunity to start my professional career with the Evansville organization,” said Olson. “Playing professional hockey has been a goal of mine since I was a kid and I’m very excited to start that journey with the Icemen.”
“Mac is someone who has done all the right things in his college career,” said Hobart Head Coach Mark Taylor “He’s excelled in his academics, worked hard to secure internships and pursued his athletic passions. The accolades he received this year and his work leading the team have culminated in this great opportunity for him.”
An AHCA first team All-American, Olson played in 103 games at Hobart. He registered 45 goals and 50 assists for 95 career points. Olson garnered All-USCHO honors this year, All-ECAC West first team accolades and was named the ECAC West Player of the Year. He was also a finalist for the Sid Watson Award, Division III’s Player of the Year. In his senior season, he matched a career-high with 27 points on 13 goals and 14 assists.
Olson also earned All-ECAC West second team honors as a sophomore and ECAC West all-rookie team accolades as a first year. He was tabbed the 2012-13 ECAC West Rookie of the Year.
“My coaches and teammates at Hobart have been very supportive and prepared me well for this opportunity. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to play my collegiate career,” added Olson.
