Iroquois Boys Varsity Hockey Tie One and Lose One

The Chiefs tied St. Joe’s 2-2 on Saturday night after losing to Canisius on Friday 3-2.

The Chiefs dominated the first period against Canisius. The only Iroquois goals of the night were scored in the first by Aiden Abraszek (unassisted) and Sasha Hawkins, also unassisted. Friday night’s battle pressed on through the second period with one goal by Canisius, followed by two more in the third period. Goalie Maverick Blachowicz held Canisius at three.

Despite the final score of the Canisius game, the Chiefs were solid, with Daniel Taggert and Adam Pukalo playing great in the offensive zone.

Steven Kaufmann opened the scoring in the game against St. Joe’s Saturday night with a goal in the first, assisted by Ryan Marshall.  The remaining goals of the night were scored in the second period, with two by St. Joe’s and one by Iroquois. The Chiefs goal in the second was scored by Aiden Abraszek, off an assist from defenseman Andrew Wilson. Wilson generated many scoring opportunities for the Chiefs on Saturday night. With the Chiefs pressing hard late in the game, Pat Stenzel came close to putting the Chiefs ahead, but came up just short due to a great save by the St. Joe’s goalie.

The Chiefs Tyler Hirsch played a tough physical game, and Richard Karalus provided steady defensive coverage. Ryan Marshall contributed offensively throughout, and Robert Bauer was terrific in net, keeping the Chiefs tied at two.
