For those unfamiliar with the Western New York Girls Varsity Ice Hockey playoff situation, they hold two.
The first begins Thursday (Feb. 2) to determine which team heads to the New York State Girls Varsity Championship game in Canton February 10 and 11. This playoff is the Section VI which, according to Section VI ruling, annot include the Monsignor Martin Team.
Monsignor Martin is eligible for the WNYGVIH Federation Championship and that is what gives the league another championship round which will begin February 14 and culminates with a Championship Game at HarborCenter on February 26.
So if you aren’t confused enough here is the Playoff situation for NYS Section VI.
Williamsville has taken the first seed with a 15 win, no loss and 3 ties record and 49.5 points. They receive a bye in the first round, as does #2 seed Orchard Park/Frontier/Lake Shore, who closed out the regular season with a 14-3-1 record.
Opening play will be #6 seed Lancaster/Iroquois/Depew (1-16-1) against Amherst/SweetHome/Clarence (8-10-0). The puck drops at 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2 at Northtowns Center, Amherst.
Game two will be played at 5:30 p.m. when #5 West Seneca/Hamburg/Eden (1-16-1) faces #4 Kenmore/Grand Island (8-10-0)
Semi-finals will be held Monday, February 6 at 4 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., also at Northtowns. Williamsville will faceoff against the #4 seed, determined in the quarterfinals and Frontier/Lancaster/Orchard Park faces the #3 seed.
The NYS Section VI Championship Game will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, February 8 at Northtowns.
The winner then heads to Canton to play in the NYS Varsity Championships. Section VI will take the ice on Friday, February 10 at 8 p.m. against the winner of Section VII. Section X will face Section III at 6 p.m.
The NYS Championship game will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11. The State University of New York at Canton are hosting the games in the home of the Roos!
