The Buffalo Jr. Sabres tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Oakville Blades held on for a 6-5 victory.
A goal by Ryan Foss put Oakville up 6-4 in the third period, but Buffalo pulled to within one on Griffin Lunn’s tally 15:10 into the third period.
The Blades were led by Foss, who racked up one goal. Foss scored 11:05 into the third period to make the score 6-4 Oakville. Paul Butler provided the assist.
Oakville additionally got points from Tyler Rollo, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Oliver Benwell, who also had one goal and one assist, and Christian Rajic, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Oakville included Bryce Misley and Peyton Reeves, who each put in one. In addition, Oakville received assists from Josh Kosack, who had two and Patrick Kudla and Daniel Jelic, who each chipped in one.
The Jr. Sabres put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Oakville to score on any of its three power plays. Buffalo’s offense rang up 38 shots on the Blades’ net.
Buffalo also got points from Aaron Reinig, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Christopher Berger, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Bryce Ferrell also scored for Buffalo. Other players who recorded assists for Buffalo were Tim Nicksic, who had three and Mitchell Spring, Dylan Seitz, Zach Evancho, and Joshua Biasillo, who contributed one each.
Brendan McGlynn recorded 33 saves for Oakville. The Blades incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Jr. Sabres’ Tucker Weppner stopped 24 shots out of the 30 that he faced. Buffalo incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
