Christian DiFelice and Dylan Seitz each had a pair of goals as the Buffalo Jr. Sabres took a 6-3 win over rival Georgetown on Wednesday evening at HARBORCENTER.
Overall, nine different Buffalo Jr. Sabres players registered at least a point in the victory over the Raiders.
Georgetown opened the scoring with a goal by Josh Dickinson at the 8:11 mark of the first period, but Buffalo put up a strong campaign for the remainder of the opening frame. DiFelice tied the game at one 1:15 after Dickinson’s tally.
Less than a minute later, Seitz tallied his first of the night to give Buffalo the lead roughly halfway through the opening twenty.
Seven minutes later, it was Matthew Buchbinder notching a goal to make it 3-1 Buffalo, a lead the Jr. Sabres would hold onto for the rest of the first period and the first seven and a half minutes of the second.
Then it was Georgetown’s turn. A strong effort with at least two missed shots eventually led to a Matthew Cairns goal for the Raiders, making it a one-goal game 7:34 into the middle frame.
It’d stay that way for about seven and a half minutes, when DiFelice would tally his second of the night – and fourth of the season – to once again cushion the Jr. Sabres lead to two.
But Dickinson wasn’t quite done, as he’d score his second of the night two minutes after DiFelice to – once again – cut the lead to one goal.
That would be all for the Raiders, as Buffalo’s Seitz and Evan Bennett would score in the third period to give the Jr. Sabres a 6-3 victory. Seitz’s goal was an unassisted tally on the power play, while Bennett’s was an empty-netter, his first goal with the Jr. A team.
The third period was a wild one, with no love lost between the rival teams. Multiple scrums broke out, including one at the 12:40 mark that resulted in two game misconducts for third man in, two fighting majors, a pair of roughing minors and a facemask violation.
Even as the buzzer sounded, things heated up. A pair of Georgetown players were charged with fighting majors and charging majors at the 20-minute mark — and the teams will see each other again shortly as they face off again this weekend.
Buffalo outshot Georgetown this evening by a final tally 28-20.
The Jr. Sabres head on the road to face Aurora and Georgetown this weekend before returning home to host the St. Michael’s Buzzers on October 14th at 7:35 pm at HARBORCENTER.
