The Buffalo Jr. Sabres captured their 10th consecutive victory with a 3-2 win over the Oakville Blades Wednesday night in their final game of the calendar year.
Brenden Dunning, coming off a two-goal night against the Jr. Canadiens in the team’s 4-2 win on Tuesday, opened the scoring for Buffalo on Wednesday for his 12th of the season.
The Jr. Sabres held the lead for about six minutes before the Blades would tie the game at one on a power-play goal by Drew Worrad.
It appeared that the teams would skate off from the first period tied at one, but Bryce Ferrell had a little something to say about that.
Ferrell potted one with just three seconds left on the clock to put the Jr. Sabres up 2-1 after twenty minutes of play.
The Blades would get that one back in the second on a goal by Paul Butler, and the teams would end up squared off at two after two periods.
They’d stay deadlocked until the 12:57 mark of the third, when Andrew Pizzo gave the Jr. Sabres their third lead of the night.
Dunning would add his second of the night on the empty net with 40 seconds to play, giving the Jr. Sabres a 4-2 lead.
The Jr. Sabres now haven’t lost since November 21st and haven’t lost at home since November 11.
With a few days off, the Jr. Sabres next game is a 1:30 pm tilt against the Markham Royals on Sunday, January 3rd.
