It took two overtimes for Kenmore West to take the Section VI Championship home. They upset Starpoint Central 2-1.
It was a scoreless game through two periods and then Kenmore West’s Braden Zeler put one in the net, unassisted at 6:57 of the third. It seemed that would be the end of the game. With 25.5 seconds on the clock Starpoint’s Alec Kirk, assisted by Robert Taylor and Max Ciepiela got the puck past netminder Max Pelino and tied the game 1-1.
Overtime Number One went with no score and then in the second OT P.J. Abbott scored, unassisted at 5:24 and the Kenmore West Blue Devils take their first championship since 2006.
Kenmore’s Max Pelino was named game MVP.
