BROOKLYN – The New York Islanders announced today that forward Kirill Petrov has agreed to terms on a one-year, entry-level contract.
Petrov, 25, scored 15 points (five goals, 10 assists) with Kazan Ak-Bars of the Kontinental Hockey League last season. Playing parts of nine seasons in Russia’s top hockey division, Petrov has tallied 125 points (61 goals, 64 assists) in 318 games with Ak-Bars and Yugra Khanty-Mansiysk.
Since 2006, the Kazan, Russia native has played all but one season for his hometown team. Petrov helped Ak-Bars compete in the KHL’s 2013 and 2015 Gagarin Cup Finals.
The Islanders selected Petrov in the third round (73rd overall) of the 2008 NHL Draft. On the international stage, the 6’3, 225-pound winger represented Russia at the 2013 World Championships in Sweden and Finland, scoring five points (one goal, four assists) in eight games. Petrov also represented his country at the 2009 and 2010 World Junior Championships, combining for 10 points (four goals, six assists) in 13 games.
