Ten different Clarkson players scored goals and 15 Golden Knights recorded at least one point as the defending national and ECAC Hockey champions cruised to an 11-1 victory over Brown in Providence, RI on Saturday afternoon.
The 11 goals matched a Clarkson mark for second most goals scored in a game and was the most for the Knights since putting up 12 in a win over RIT on September 28, 2013.
Clarkson, which shut out Yale 4-0 on Friday, owns a 10-1-1 overall record and a 3-1 ECAC Hockey mark. Ranked third in the national polls, the Green and Gold play a home-and-home series with Vermont this coming weekend. The Knights play the Catamounts in Burlington on Friday and then host UVM next Saturday to open a four-game home stand at Cheel Arena.
“I thought we made a lot of progress this weekend in a few areas,” stated Head Coach Matt Desrosiers. “We put a lot of focus on maintaining good habits and playing our game, which I thought we did this weekend. Both games saw the entire lineup contribute in many different ways which allowed our depth to come through. We need to make sure that when moving forward we work hard at bringing the same type of depth and consistency we saw this weekend.”
Freshman sensation Elizabeth Giguere (Quebec City, QUE) was Clarkson’s lone multiple-goal scorer against Brown with two tallies in the balanced effort. The rookie right wing has now recorded at least one point in each of her first 12 collegiate games. Giguere has 22 points on 10 goals and 12 assists.
Clarkson took control right from the opening faceoff against Brown (0-6-0, 0-4-0) and held a 5-0 lead after the first period.
Giguere started things off, scoring just 61 seconds in. Senior captain, defenseman Savannah Harmon (Downers Grove, IL) and sophomore Michaela Pejzlova followed at 8:29 and 12:57, respectively.
The Bears’ lone goal of the day came at 13:11 with Steph Rempe putting the home team on the scoreboard.
Freshman Kristy Pidgeon (Ingleside, ONT) answered back with her first collegiate goal at 17:40 and junior defenseman Josiane Pozzebon (Bourget, ONT) connected for her first goal of the season with 27 seconds remaining in the opening stanza.
Junior Rhyen McGill (Whitby, ONT) and freshmen Tia Stoddard (La Mesa, CA) and Michaela Boyle (Reading, MA) all scored in the second period.
Giguere, senior assistant captain Amanda Titus (Stittsville, ONT) and junior Loren Gabel (Kitchener, ONT) rounded out the scoring with third-period goals.
Gabel, who scored the lone power-play goal of the game, also recorded an assist. The left wing leads the Knights in scoring with 11 goals and 22 points, and has tallied 91 career points (51-40).
Sophomore defenseman Ella Shelton (Ingersol, ONT) recorded a game-high three assists.
Clarkson outshot Brown 48-22.
Junior Shea Tiley (Owen Sound, ONT) picked up the win with six saves. Sophomore Jenna Brenneman (Egan, MN) played the final two periods and finished with 15 saves.
