SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman forward Brynn Koocher earned her first College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Week honor Monday after a two-point weekend at Robert Morris. Koocher scored a goal and an assist in the series, her Saturday lamp-lighter helping ‘Cuse shutout RMU, 1-0, while also giving Syracuse head coach Paul Flanagan his 400th career win. Koocher is the fifth Orange and second freshmen to win a CHA weekly honor this season. Her nod comes on the heels of Mae Batherson receiving the same honor last week after recording four points against Mercyhurst.
Koocher’s assist came midway through game one of the series when she gathered the puck behind the net and tossed it out front for a gliding Abby Moloughney, Moloughney going glove side to make the score 2-1 Colonials. Koocher’s goal came in the final period of game two when she settled a rebound in front of the goalie and threw it in to put Syracuse ahead three minutes into the final stanza.
This is the sixth weekly honor Syracuse has earned this season. In addition to last week, Batherson was recognized on Nov. 4 for registering three-points (2G, 1A) against RIT. Junior goaltender Allison Small picked up a Goaltender of the Week nod on Nov. 25 after making 47 saves over two games against Penn State to help ‘Cuse go 1-0-1 in the series. Junior forward Victoria Klimek earned Player of the Week honors after a two-point day against St. Lawrence on Nov. 16. Junior defender Jessica DiGirolamo was named Player of the Week on Oct. 7 after scoring one goal and logging two assists against No. 7 Boston College.
