Clarence native Zach Remers scored halfway through the third period to give Buffalo State a 2-1 victory over Cortland and a tie for third place in SUNYAC with Brockport, who lost to Geneseo. Since both teams have the same number of wins, the Bengals win the third tiebreaker of common opponents starting at the top of the standings based on their 4-2 win over Geneseo in November.
Buffalo State will host sixth-seed Potsdam while Brockport hosts fifth-seed Plattsburgh Wednesday night in the first round of the playoffs.
Gordie Helmuth and freshman Tyson Gilmour each netted a pair of goals in the Knights 6-4 win. It marks Gilmour’s first two-goal game as a collegian.
Fredonia’s season comes to a close despite a late run with points in five of their last eight conference games.

Senior defenseman and co-captain Adam Brubacher tied the game with 47 seconds remaining in regulation and then netted his second of the game 1:06 in overtime to give RIT a 3-2 victory over Niagara and clinch one of the top four seeds in Atlantic Hockey.
That gives the Tigers a first round bye and home ice for the quarterfinal series.
