Senior defenseman Chris McKay broke open a 3-3 tie with 2:39 remaining and Shawn Cameron scored an empty-net insurance goal as RIT finished off the regular season with a 4-2 win over Air Force. The Tigers finished third to earn a bye and await the third-lowest remaining seed after next weekend’s first round playoffs.
Niagara exploded for four second period goals to defeat Robert Morris 5-2 and, with the Air Force loss to RIT, leapfrogged the Falcons into the fifth and last seed to earn a first round playoff bye. The will host the highest remaining seed the weekend of March13-15.
Canisius freshman goaltender Jacob Barczewski made 31 saves for his first collegiate shutout 6-0 over Mercyhurst. The Griffs received goals from six different players including Nick Hutcinson’s (Hicksville) team-leading 16th of the season. Canisius finished ninth and will travel to Bentley for a best-of-three first round playoff series.
Senior Conlan Keenan (Penfield) scored twice and Andrew Romano had a three-point night to take over the national scoring lead with 54 points as Geneseo advanced to the SUNYAC championship game with a 7-0 shellacking of Potsdam Saturday night.
They await the winner of Plattsburgh @ Oswego to be played Tuesday night after a compressor failure postponed the contest. The title game will be Saturday (3/7) night at 7pm in Geneseo.
