Canisius junior goaltender Matt Ladd and sophomore forward Keaton Mastrodonato were both recognized as the Atlantic Hockey association announced its weekly award winners.

Ladd was named the league’s Goaltender of the Week while Mastrodonato took home Player of the Week honors as both were pivotal in helping lead Canisius to a sweep of Atlantic Hockey foe Mercyhurst in a home-and-home series last weekend, their first competition in more than a month due to COVID-19 protocols.

A native of Getzville, N.Y., Ladd stopped 51-of-53 shots faced during the two-game series against the Lakers.

In the series opener at LECOM Harborcenter on Jan. 2, Ladd made 21 consecutive saves after Mercyhurst scored on its first shot of the contest to backstop the Griffs to a 3-2 victory. The series finale saw the third-year netminder turn aside all 30 shots he faced, including a game-high 15 attempts from the Lakers during the first period, to record his third career shutout in a 3-0 triumph on the road the following afternoon.

Mastrodonato, meanwhile, recorded two goals and two assists during the two-game sweep. The Powell River, British Columbia, product scored the go-ahead goal and assisted the eventual game-winning tally in Canisius’ come-from-behind victory in the opener. He followed that performance with the game-winning goal and an assist in the shutout victory the following afternoon.
