Late Rally Not Enough For Army to Top Falcons

WALTHAM, Mass. – The Army West Point hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision to Bentley on Saturday night.

The Falcons went ahead 3-1, but a score by the Black Knights in the final minute of play kept them alive. Bentley took advantage of Army’s empty net however to clinch the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED
It was another back-and-forth game between Army and Bentley.
Jared Dempsey stripped the Falcons of a goal after making a toe save to close out the first period.
Bentley bounced back in the second scoring the first goal of the game at the three minutes in.
The lead didn’t last long though as the Black Knights took advantage of a 5-on-3 with a goal by Colin Bilek 14 seconds into the power play.
Dominic Franco setup the play passing the puck from low to high where Alex Wilkinson took a slapshot connecting with Bilek for the tip in.
The Falcons posted two goals in the third period to take a comfortable 3-1 lead.
Army didn’t stop battling though and after pulling Dempsey with 1:12 remaining, Franco brought Army within one redirecting Coby Mack’s shot from the blue line with 48 seconds on the clock.
Bentley would go on to score an empty net goal with two seconds remaining to secure a win.

ARMY HIGHLIGHTS AND GAME NOTES
Bilek scored the first power play goal in his career tonight.
The freshman now has three goals and six points this season.
Wilkinson holds the top spot in Atlantic Hockey for power play points with his assist tonight.
The junior owns two power play goals and nine helpers on the man advantage.
This season, Wilkinson has registered 11 assists and 13 points.
He has garnered at least one point in all but three games in 2018-19.
Franco increased his scoring streak to three games with tonight’s goal and assist.
The junior now totals nine points this year on five goals and four assists.
He leads the Cadets in career multi-point games with 13.
Mack has now had a helper in back-to-back games.
Dempsey finished the game with 23 saves.
