Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as Wilkes-Barre defeated Lockport in a shootout 4-3 (3-2 SO).
The shootout featured nine attempts between both teams. Lockport got shootout goals from Frank II Vecchio and Dillon Hayes. Wilkes-Barre’s other shootout goals were scored by Zoltan Eross and Guillaume St. Germain.
In a losing effort, Lockport was led by Christopher Gasiewicz, who racked up two goals. Gasiewicz scored the first of his two goals at 15:55 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Nicholas Siracuse provided the assist. Gasiewicz’s next tally made the score 3-3 with 12:12 left in the third period. A tripping call on Giancarlo Muglia put Lockport on the penalty kill.
In the losing effort, Lockport was led by Gasiewicz, who had two goals.
Wilkes-Barre forced Lockport goalie Muglia to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.
Wilkes-Barre was helped by Derek Bureau, who tallied one goal. Bureau scored on the power play 11:48 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wilkes-Barre. Wilkes-Barre had gotten the advantage when Lockport’s Austin Kasperek was sent off for cross checking. Arturs Bush assisted on the tally. Wilkes-Barre also had goals scored by Jan Mendel and Krystof Rykala, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wilkes-Barre came via Daniel Leisser, who had two and Austin Bandura and Hunter Hackling, who contributed one each.
Lockport also got a goal from Jordan Pocobello as well. In addition, Lockport received assists from Anthony Merante, who had one.
Nolan Bivolcic made 26 saves for Wilkes-Barre on 29 shots. Wilkes-Barre incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Muglia rejected 42 shots on goal for Lockport. Lockport incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
