Longo Named Rookie of the Week as Hobart Moves Up In Polls

Hobart College sophomore Andrew Longo (Morristown, N.J.) was named the New England Hockey Conference Rookie of the Week after the Statesmen posted league wins over the weekend. Hobart also moved up to No. 13 in the nation in this week’s USCHO.com poll and No. 11 in the D3hockey.com poll.

Longo led the Statesmen with five points on two goals and three assists over the weekend. He produced a season-high four points on a goal and three assists in a 9-1 victory at Castleton on Friday. In a 4-1 win at Norwich on Saturday, Longo scored Hobart’s first goal of the game. He has registered four goals and three assists for seven points in four games this season.

This weekend marks Hobart Hockey’s annual Alumni Weekend. On Friday, Jan. 26, the Statesmen will host New England College (11-6-1, 6-5-1) for an NEHC matchup at 7 p.m. Following the game, Hobart hockey alumni will have a gathering at Eddie O’Brien’s. The alumni game will take place on Saturday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. The current Statesmen take on the University of Southern Maine (3-10-4, 3-6-3) in The Cooler at 4 p.m. To register for the weekend and to view a full schedule of events click here. The Statesmen bring a 10-5-4 overall record and a 7-3-2 mark in the NEHC into this weekend’s games. Hobart ranks second in the league averaging 3.68 goals per game and second in scoring defense allowing an average of 2.11 goals per game. Junior Jonas Toupal leads the team with 19 points and 12 goals. He is tied for third in the league in goals and ranks fifth in points. Sophomore Lawson MacDougall ranks fourth in the NEHC with a team-high 14 assists. Senior Frank Oplinger and sophomore Alexander Connal have split time in goal all winter. Oplinger is sporting a 2.31 goals against average, a .911 save percentage and a 4-2-3 record. Connal has a 1.90 goals against average, a .927 save percentage and a 6-3-1 record.
