William Smith College first-year forward Abbey Luth has been named the United Collegiate Hockey Conference Player of the Week the league office announced today.
On Friday at Lebanon Valley College, Luth made history, becoming the first Heron to record a hat trick. With William Smith clinging to a 2-1 third period lead, her first goal gave the team some breathing room with less than nine minutes remaining in the game. About two minutes later, she potted a second goal and completed her natural hat trick with a power-play goal 31 ahead of the final horn. The Herons defeated the Dutchmen 5-1.
Luth leads the team with six goals and is third with nine points. She has recorded at least two points in each of her first three collegiate weekends, helping the Herons to 6-0-0 start (4-0-0 in UCHC). Now in its fifth season as a varsity program, William Smith is off to its best start and riding its longest win streak.
