ASTON, PA. – The Manhattanville College men’s hockey team lost to Chatham University 3-2 on Thursday, Feb. 18. The game was played at a neutral site and the Valiants goals were scored by junior forward Jarod Lavallee (Cumberland, Maine/Greely) and sophomore defenseman Hayden Taylor (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Detroit Country Day).
Manhattanville trailed the Cougars (1-2) for most of the first period until Lavallee broke through with a short-handed goal with 2:17 left to play. He was assisted on the play by sophomore forward Josh Fletcher (Calgary, Alb./Central Memorial) and the Valiants ended the first knotted at one. The second period saw only one goal and it came from Chatham at the halfway mark. They held their lead through the second intermission and were able to control play, outshooting the Valiants 21-12 heading into the third.
The final period of play began quickly as Chatham to a two-goal lead just 48 seconds into the third. The Cougars were able to hold their lead despite two third period power plays from Manhattanville. The Valiants were finally able to convert, but left themselves only 45 seconds on the clock. Taylor was assisted on his power play goal by junior forward Niko Happo (Kauniainen, Finland/Haukilahti Upper Secondary School) and senior forward Braedan Cross (Sechelt, B.C./Shawnigan Lake).
Manhattanville will have 10 days off before their next contest when they face Utica College at home on Sunday, Feb. 28. Puck drop is set for 5:30 P.M. at Westchester Skating Academy in Elmsford, N.Y.
