RYE, N.Y. – The Manhattanville College women’s ice hockey team was shutout in their penultimate non-conference matchup of the season Tuesday night, falling to Connecticut College 6-0 at Playland Ice Casino.
Sophomore Meg Messuri stopped 35 shots in her second start of the season for the Valiants (6-11-0 overall). Fellow sophomore Karly Kapur (Sparta, N.J./Sparta High School) led the Valiants with three shots on a night where Manhattanvilel was held to just 15 shots on goal.
Connecticut (8-7-1 overall) put the pressure on Manhattanville all night long, using a strong forecheck to keep Manhattanville from setting up offensive attacks throughout the game. That pressure allowed the Camels many good looks at net, registering 41 shots on the night and finding the back of the net six times.
The Camels came storming out of the gates Tuesday, scoring three goals in the first seven minutes of the opening frame, with goals from Meghan Lembo, Julie Beattie, and Anna Bleck. Messuri would settle in for the next 40 minutes of action, holding the Camels scoreless before the Connecticut attackers once again netted three goals in a seven minute span to close out the 6-0 victory.
The Valiants will look to bounce back from the loss this weekend when they travel to UMass Boston Friday afternoon for a 4:00 faceoff against the Beacons. The team will then return to Playland on Saturday when they host Nichols to cap off a weekend of New England Hockey Conference matchups.
