WILKES-BARRE, PA. – The Manhattanville College women’s hockey team took home their first win of the season against Wilkes University, Friday, March 5. Four different Valiants scored in the 5-2 road win. Sophomore forward Morgan Miller (St. Augustine, Fla./Gilmour Academy) led te Valiants in goals with two and freshman defender Faithe Harris (Castlegar, B.C./Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) led the Valiants in points with three.
The Colonels (0-3) struck first, just 14 seconds into the game, but it was all Manhattanville after that. Sophomore forward Ana Tittmann (Salisbury, Conn./Housatonic Valley Regional) was first on the board for the Valiants (1-4), 15 minutes into the first period. She was assisted by freshman forward Grace Felicio (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional) and Harris on the play. Then, with 1.9 seconds left on the clock in the first period, Harris found the back of the net from the point to give Manhattanville a 2-1 lead headed into the second.
The Valiant offense exploded for three goals in the second period. Four minutes into the period senior forward Taylor Ham (Saugerties, N.Y./Millbrook School) scored her first goal of the season and Tittmann was credited with the assist. Miller then scored back-to-back goals just three and a half minutes apart to give Manhattanville a commanding 5-1 lead. Harris and senior forward Tianna Lopes (West Vancouver, British Columbia/Pacific Steelers (JWHL)) each assisted on one of the two goals. The Crimson and White held onto their lead through the third period. Wilkes would score once midway through the final period and the final score read 5-2.
The Valiants return to the ice Saturday, March 6, at home against Wilkes. Puck drop is set for 8:20 P.M. at Westchester Skating Academy in Elmsford, N.Y. and the seniors will be honored before the game.
